From the moment I set out, it was non-stop nest spotting. First up, we stumbled across a Nightjar nest on the ground in clearfell habitat—so well camouflaged we nearly missed it. Then, not long after, we found a Whitethroat bird’s nest hidden deep in a patch of brambles, with the adults flitting nearby.

Next, a quick scramble over some rough ground brought us to a Stonechat nest tucked low under a small clump of heather—such a perfectly chosen bird nesting spot. Then it was on to the gorse, where a pair of Linnets had built their bird’s nest deep inside the spiny cover. A secretive Dunnock was next, sneaking into its well-hidden nest site, and just as we thought we’d seen it all, we came across a classic Blackbird nest nestled neatly in a thick hedge.

Every bird’s nest we found was carefully recorded for the **British Trust for Ornithology’s Nest Record Scheme**, helping to collect vital data on the breeding success of UK birds.
