Once, there was an old lion in a forest. He was once very strong, but now he was old and weak. He could not run or catch animals anymore. He was very hungry.

One day, the lion had an idea. He thought,
"If I pretend to be a holy saint, animals will come to me. Then I can catch and eat them!"

The lion went to an old temple. He found some old clothes and prayer beads. He wore them and sat under a big tree. He closed his eyes and pretended to pray.

When animals walked by, the lion said,
"Come, my child. I am a holy saint. I will bless you."

One by one, animals came to him. As they came close, the lion caught them and ate them. He did this every day.

Many animals disappeared. But no one knew where they went.

One day, a clever fox came by. The fox saw the lion sitting like a saint. But she did not go close. She looked at the ground and saw something strange.

There were paw prints going toward the lion…
But no paw prints going away from him.

The fox became careful. She shouted from far:
"O holy lion, I see many animals go to you. But I don’t see anyone come back. What kind of saint are you?"

The lion became nervous. He stayed quiet.

The fox laughed and said,
"You are a trickster, not a saint. I will not fall for your trap!"

Then she ran away and warned the other animals.

The lion could not catch anyone again. He stayed hungry and alone.
