Crystal Tipps and Alistair Reanimated

I’m starting a little project where I reanimate intros to some of my favourite 1970s British cartoons, just for fun and to help me practice animation even more!

Starting off with Crystal Tipps and Alistair, a show about a girl and her dog that ran on BBC from 1971-1974. It was created by Hilary Hayton and Graham McCallum, who also designed the characters. Animated by Richard Taylor, the show follows a paper cut out animation style. Because there is no dialogue, the show relies on visuals and music as a form of story telling.

I painted all the pieces with watercolours, but I’m pretty sure the original was designed with air brush. A whole week of work, 68 frames and 16 seconds of footage.
