Let’s say that we need to subtract multiple numbers or values inside a cell in excel, such as in this example. We are going to perform this operation in cell A3, so left click on A3, so it is highlighted. Next, type in an equals sign, from here, we type in the value we are subtracting from, in this case 20, then we type in a subtraction or minus sign, and then the first value we are subtracting, 10. Then type in another minus sign, followed by 5, the next value we are subtracting. Next we finish by hitting the enter key and we get an answer of 5.

In cell A4, I have a bunch of numbers we are subtracting, as you see, I’ll hit enter, and we have an answer of negative 22. So, excel will produce negative results.
