Nashik city in the state of Maharashtra is a famous destination for Misal Pav. It has been one of the most highly consumed breakfast dishes in many Misal outlets which are spread in large numbers across the city. Misal can be served as a snack, as a breakfast dish or as a full meal in the main course lunch. In Nashik, Misal is generally served with sprouted usal to which gravy is added and is topped with Spicy Tarri which gives a hot and spicy taste to the Misal. Finally, it is garnished with Sev, Chopped Onions and Chopped Coriander. Finally served with Pav, Curd and Roasted or Fried Papad. Sometimes it is also served with some Poha and Tadka Potatoes.

Ingredients:-

For Kala Masala
• 2 Star anise
• 2Javitri
• 1 tsp Black pepper
• 10 Cloves
• 5-6 Bay leaves
• 1-inch Cinnamon
• 2 Black cardamom
• 5 grams of dry Ginger Powder
• Handful Stone flower
• 1 tsp Triphala
• 1tsp Nagkesar
• 1 tsp Black cumin seeds
• 15-gram white Sesame seeds
• 10 gram Poppy seeds
• 1/2 Tbsp of Turmeric Powder
• 1 cup grated dry Coconut
• 1 cup Coriander seeds
• 10 Dry red chilli
• Oil

For Vatan
• 2 tsp Oil
• 2 sliced Onions
• 5~6 garlic cloves
• 2” chopped Ginger
• 2~3 tsp grated dry Coconut
• Coriander leaves (Optional)
• 1~2 tsp Water

For Assembly
• 2 Tbsp Oil
• Kala masala 2tbsp
• Red chilli powder (1 tbsp each of Kashmiri and Theeka Lal)
• 1.5 Cups Mataki / sprouted Moth beans
• Hot Water
• Salt to taste

Serving and Garnish:-
• Shev
• Finely chopped Onion
• Finely chopped Coriander leaves
• Ladi pav
• Lemon slice
• Curd
• Poha and Tadka Aloo (Optional)
