It just got a whole lot easier for Americans to find out which power plants and industrial sites are releasing the most emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency recently released its greenhouse gas database, and included some great tools for tracking polluters. While it doesn't include any requirements to reduce those emissions, it could be a first step in that direction by simply making clear who is releasing it and how much is being released. After the Toxics Release Inventory was created in the 80's, companies - under pressure from the public - began cutting even before mandatory reductions were phased in. After all, no one wants to be called out for farting at the party, so to speak.

Number 10 is the Rockport coal plant with 16,666,035 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emitted in 2010

9th is the General J.M. Gavin coal plant, emitting 16.87 million tons of CO2

Next is Montana's Colstrip coal plant with total 2010 emissions of over 17 million

Number 7 on the list is the Labadie, Missouri coal plant - see the trend? - with 17.365 million metric tons of co2 released into the air

6th is Monroe, Michigan's coal plant with 17 million, 850 thousand tons of CO2

The Gibson coal plant in Owensville, Indiana is fifth, releasing nearly 18 million metric tons in 2010

Number 4 is the Martin Lake coal plant in Tatum, sending 18.7 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere

Quinton, Alabama's Miller coal plant gave off 20.75 million metric tons

Second on the list is the Bowen coal plant in Georgia, with total 2010 co2 emissions of just over 21 million metric tons

And the Scherer coal plant in Juliette, Georgia is the biggest single polluter in America, releasing close to 23 million metric tons of co2 in a single year.
