(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the 1965 Delano Grape Strike on the Assembly Floor. “On the evening of September 7th, 1965, Filipino farm workers filled the Filipino community hall in Delano, California, and made the bold decision to strike for dignified working conditions and treatment,” Assemblymember Bonta explained. “The Filipino leaders successfully called upon the mostly Latino farm workers union, the National Farm Workers Association, to join the strike. This unprecedented collaboration between Filipino and Latino farm workers and leaders was critical to the success of the 5-year strike---an event which is now considered one of the most significant turning points in California farm labor history.” Here’s more from Assemblymember Bonta in this Assembly Access video. http://www.asmdc.org/bonta
