Описание к видео Summer Fleet Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Crew Out of Hot Water

Summer brings unique challenges for fleet maintenance, and it’s not just about checking tires. In high heat, keeping trucks cool, both for the engine and the driver, becomes critical. Mike Hagaman, senior manager of client relationship management at FleetNet America by Cox Automotive, shares tips to keep fleets running in top shape through the hottest months.

Cooling systems take a beating in summer. Hagaman stresses the importance of keeping radiators clean and free of debris, as bugs and dirt can quickly clog screens and reduce efficiency. He also notes that fan clutches should be working properly, and visual inspections should be part of every pre- and post-trip routine.

Air conditioning is more than a comfort feature. It is a retention tool. Hagaman recommends adding AC checks to preventive maintenance schedules, since mid-route repairs can be difficult to arrange, especially during peak season when shops are backed up. In humid regions, blocked condensate lines can cause water buildup inside cabs, making regular checks essential.

Humidity also affects other systems. Moisture in air tanks can impact braking, so draining them regularly is a must. Batteries are another hot-weather weak point. Hagaman suggests load testing during seasonal changes and replacing them every four years, with absorbed glass mat batteries offering better performance and durability.

Even small components like windshield wipers can sideline a truck if neglected, Hagaman warns. For long-haul fleets, preventive maintenance can be harder to schedule, but FleetNet’s large service network helps keep trucks in motion with on-the-fly PMs.

If breakdowns happen in extreme heat, being prepared matters. Something as simple as bottled water in the cab can make a big difference.

Watch this episode of On The Road to hear more of Hagaman’s cost-saving ideas and learn how smart summer maintenance can keep your fleet moving safely and efficiently.
