This was a very exciting dive. Not only did I see tons of white Seabass, but I finally accomplished a successful ghost hunt..

While the white Seabass wasn’t the monster, I was hoping for in my first it still was 30 inches and 12 pounds . White Seabass legal length has to be 28 inches and I wasn’t going to pass this opportunity up.

After four years of constant hunting in the spring and pea soup colored water and often really poor Diving conditions I finally did it today !

Not only was this an exciting first accomplishment of getting what is referred to as a ghost because they are so difficult to find and to shoot, but I also accomplish something that really meant a lot to me.

Four years ago Miguel, the lobster King, Martinez and I created a logo for a group of guys we call SoCal Harbor Boys. The SoCal Harbor boys are a group of really passionate Spearfishing and rod fisherman that come from all kinds of backgrounds but find a brotherhood in lobster diving and spearfishing.

Initially, I created a logo that had two crossing spear guns with a lobster to the left, a sheep head to the right and potentially a white Seabass at the bottom. For most of us being sure divers these were the three key species we would hunt. However, the white Seabass was the one that was the most elusive of all.

The white Seabass in Southern California is called the ghost and for a very good reason. When you hunt white Seabass, you have to be as quiet as you can possibly be as stealthy as you possibly can be and even then more than likely you’re just going to see a brush of the tail swimming away from you or you’ll hear the croak of their mating that sounds like drums, or even a silhouette of one just out of visibility. Some people never even see them or even get the opportunity to shoot one.

Knowing this Miguel and I agreed that a cool idea would be to remove the white Seabass off the logo and in order for anyone on the SoCal Harbor boys team to get the logo with the white Seabass they would have to shoot one. If I recall correctly, as usual, Miguel was the very first one to earn the sticker. He quickly not only became the lobster King, but really became the ghost prince as well. In this case, I don’t call him the ghost king because another SoCal Harbor boy Alex truly is the ghost King and and helped us really develop into ghost hunters.

So when I finally got this white Seabass after four years of hunting this meant so much to me because I finally earned the logo that I had created four years ago!

SpearPro weight vest review:

To follow up on my weight vest review that I did a few weeks ago you can check that out in my videos. SpearPro reached out to me and pointed out that I had missed a feature in the weight vest in the videos. Not only could you strap the weight vest on like a backpack and easily just gonna slip it off if you needed to, but you could also strap it through the circles on the vest to connect across the chest.

In this dive, I decided to give this a shot and hopefully it would help pull down the knife that I have on my left hand shoulder so that it’s a little bit more accessible during the dive and it really did help. I do find that strapping it across the chest was more comfortable. It stays in position better than when I just had it on my shoulders. The knife was more accessible to me when I went to bring the fish or even if I just needed it quickly, it was right there. It’s pretty easy to get. I would like to have it a little bit further down, but that probably will just be having to get a smaller knife or something of that nature to put on there..

I still do need to add one or 2 pounds of weight since I have dove a few times since this video and the biggest thing I noticed is I just need a tiny bit more weight so I’m gonna go get some soft weights to throw in the back and the other two pouches in the vest that can hold weights .
