Master Measuring with Mason Jars ~ Noreen's Kitchen Basics

Описание к видео Master Measuring with Mason Jars ~ Noreen's Kitchen Basics

I thought it would be fun to share why I use mason jars in my opening segments when going over ingredients for my recipes. Besides the fact that they are super cute, they really do serve a purpose and they help me to give you a visual example of the measurements in a dish.

I use mason jars because they are readily available and I can use them in place of measuring cups due to the fact that they all equal simple units of measure. There are more varieties of jars that I do have but did not show here that can help you measure even further!

Two quart jars or half gallon jars equal eight cups and are great for storing leftovers in the fridge or freezer. Just don't fill them too much. I love this size jar for measuring stock for soups and stews as well as storing dry goods on my jar wall. I will often vacuum seal the jars to keep the contents fresh.

Quart jars equal four cups and are perfect for meal prep and even making upside down salads. Pint jars equal 2 cups and are great when making bread to measure out flour. My favorite is the standar jelly jar which equals one cup. This is a great one to have around when baking because when you run out of the two or three measuring cups you have when measuring wet or dry, it can be easy to just reach for one of these jars to measure out ingredients. I also have jars that equal 1/2 cup or 4 ounces and 1/4 cup or 2 ounces. The latter are actually intended to be shot glasses, but they come with lids that screw on so I consider them a jar. These are great for measuring out small amounts of liquid or even sharing flavored oils or extracts with friends.

Being an avid canner, I have tons of canning jars. I even have jars that equal 3 cups and some that equal 1 1/2 cups. These also make great drinking glasses.when setting a cute table for family and friends.

I love mason jars for so many reasons. The fact that they double as measuring "cups" is a bonus. If you look at the side of the pint, quart and half gallon jars you can see measure lines to indicate how much you are using. Again, they thought of everything. Never has there been a more versatile tool in the kitchen. Reusable, eco friendly and dishwasher safe. Been around for years and will be around for more. Why mess with a good thing? They got this one right the first time.

I hope this inspires you to dig out those mason jars this holiday season when you are getting ready to do marathon baking sessions. This will help you avoid that "all the measuring cups are wet" scenario when you need to measure flour or sugar!

I hope you give this a try sometime soon and I hope you love it!

Happy Measuring!
