Regavim brings the facts to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

We just concluded two important hearings in the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

The first focused on quarrying in Judea and Samaria – both legal and illegal quarries in areas A and B, the sections of Judea and Samaria under Palestinian Authority control, as well as area C, the section under Israeli control. It was a fascinating hearing on an important issue.

The second hearing focused on the destruction of Mount Ebal and the important national heritage site of Joshua’s Altar there. This site is a national historic landmark – a world heritage site that is being eradicated by the Palestinian Authority through development that erases the historical record.

Regavim presented field documentation to the committee. Sadly, the representatives of IDF Central Command and the Civil Administration were coached to say precisely what the committee members want to hear – but Regavim’s mission is to present the harsh reality on the ground:

What enforcement action has been taken in the past 15 years? Regavim has petitioned the High Court 3 times about this site -but here’s a secret: There’s been more enforcement activity at the tiny Maoz Esther outpost!

The Defense Ministry’s policy is to allow the Palestinians to do as much quarrying in Judea and Samaria as they like because this is a major element of Palestinian gross national product, and the higher the Palestinian GNP, the more quiet Israel will enjoy. That’s the conception – and that’s what we should be talking about.
