MiniBytes by Route Genix | BFD Bidirectional Forwarding Detection

Описание к видео MiniBytes by Route Genix | BFD Bidirectional Forwarding Detection

BFD is a fast way to detect when a link in a network is broken. Other protocols like OSPF and EIGRP also detect link failures, but they can take longer to realize that something is wrong. Networks with real-time traffic need fast detection times. BFD was made to be fast and doesn't have much overhead. It can be used with other protocols to quickly detect link failures.

BFD detects link failures by stopping the sending of control packets, which prompts OSPF to end the neighbor adjacency. BFD has two modes: asynchronous and demand. In asynchronous mode, BFD sends control packets and stops the session if they're not received. In demand mode, BFD uses polling to check reachability, but this mode isn't supported by Cisco or other vendors. Both modes have an "echo mode" where packets are sent and returned to check for failures.
