Today we are working on a 2006 Audi A4 FWD 2.0T . This car had a large oil leak that was not coming from the pan, or anywhere else obvious. What is very common, is that the oil filter housing or (filter case) mounts to the side of the engine and when the gasket fails, or the plastic warps, large amounts of oil leak out. The oil usually falls onto the engine block and pools up, and then will drip into other areas, making it hard to find.
To fix this oil leak, we will replace the Oil Filter Housing (or as Audi calls it, the assembly is: 2.0 LITER. 2.0 LITER 2006-08. 2.0 LITER 2007-08. 2.0 LITER 2008 ALL 2009 W/O AWD. 2.0 LITER 2009-15 W/AWD, TTS. 2.0 LITER GAS. 2.0 LITER GAS 2006-08. Engine Oil Filter Adapter . Engine Oil Filter Adapter. Engine Oil Filter Housing. Filter ASSEMBLY. Filter case. Housing ASSEMBLY. Oil filter hsng.)
The total repair cost us around $120 for parts, not including any labor costs. We were told that the car received a quote for around $1,500 to have this part replaced.
To fix this oil leak on a 2006 Audi A4 2.0T you will want to have medium to advanced skill level and confidence, including the ability to use a torque wrench for proper torque settings of the bolts, which is around 15Nm.
The part (Audi Part Number: 06F115397J) is relatively simple to replace, but it does take a bit of effort to access. Even though you can replace just the gasket, because of the effort required to get to it, we recommend replacing the full assembly.
The OEM Part Number: 06F115397J is avaliable for over $300, which is pretty expensive: https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi_2006...
Thankfully, you can buy an aftermarket version from places like Parts Geek, or similar and find the whole assembly for around $80 (Parts Geek Part Number: 129-119)
