“We had all of the participants or volunteers write the letters in English and then a lot of those letters were translated into Punjabi and some of those letters are going to be translated into Haitian Creole. “I think when we hold protests and we're trying to call out legislators or government officials, all of those things are happening on the outside. The people detained don't even know that those things are happening. Writing letters and being able to do virtual visits online, all of these are direct ways in order for us to communicate with all of those individuals detained.”

A dozen Indianapolis residents gathered Tuesday evening for a letter-writing session to immigrants being held in ICE detention centers in Indiana.

“They may have removed you from our presence, but they can never steal your hope,” wrote Cecilia Gomez, a social worker.
