Today we speak with three major players in the Japanese Jazz Vinyl World:
Richard Capeless
Takashi Inohara
Michael Schoolnik
Takashi Inohara is the only independent commercial Japanese jazz record seller producing YouTube videos in English at his channel, Jazz Love Japan. Takashi creates educational content on historical jazz records made in Japan to create demand, then sells his records on his YouTube channel using his 24-hour auction system on his website, https://jazzlovejapan.com/. Takashi lives in Yamanashi prefecture.

Michael Schoolnik of Rice Field Records is an American living in Japan. Michael discusses his experiences buying records in Japan, used audio equipment, and his listening room at his YouTube channel, @ricefieldrecords. Michael has profiled audiophile’s listening rooms and various record store chains and independent stores. His most recent videos cover Japanese record grading systems, the recent Tokyo Audio Fair, and a record shopping dig in Osaka. Michael lives outside Tokyo.

Richard Capeless is a musician, jazz lover, and record collector. Rich created the collector blog, Deep Groove Mono, and the deeply informative site, RVGLegacy.org, which documents the history of engineer Rudy Van Gelder. With the help of his wife, Ako, Rich has recently documented record store road trips both in Japan and the United States on his YouTube channel, Deep Groove Mono. Rich has long recognized and appreciated the exceptional quality of Japanese jazz vinyl reissues, and he anticipates more record shopping excursions in Japan with Ako.
