This is an useful tech tip on how to tweak the tone of your pickups by changing the value of the volume pot.

Before spending a lot of money on new pickups (or change the design of your pickups) try changing a $5 volume pot to a different value.
Dont be afraid to change the values drastically I remember coming across a tele that had pickups that sounded like bricks, I ended up installing a 1meg pot to bring back as much treble as possible. I also remember the opposite to another tele by installing a 100K pot to take the bite off some ceramic P90s.
