Proper AR15 Gas Key Replacement & Staking: Approved Field Method with Basic Tools, POF Roller Cam

In this video we’re using the training manual prescribed method of staking a gas key in the field with a few modifications based on my preferences. We’re removing the old gas key off of a Colt bolt carrier group, and installing one from Patriot Ordnance Factory for their roller cam pin upgrade kit.

I use high temperature gas maker to seal the key, torque to 56 in-lb (confirmed with POF USA as being correct for their fasteners), and stake in two places with a punch instead of three. These are deviations from the manual based on my experience and preference.

I’ve used this method on many AR15 and M16 variants for years. It holds up in SBRs, full autos, you name it. It’s reliable and not very difficult as long as you follow the process.
