Introducing Penny Harris: Recipient of the Bill Keating Jr. Educator of Excellence Award

With a distinguished career spanning over 28 years, Penny Harris is a seasoned educator whose journey from a U.S. Navy veteran to a dedicated art teacher has been marked by passion, commitment, and excellence. After serving in the Navy, Penny embarked on a new mission: to inspire and educate the next generation through the transformative power of art. Having taught visual art in Cincinnati Public Schools for nearly three decades, Penny has made a profound impact on students of all ages. Certified in visual art from kindergarten through 12th grade, Penny has nurtured artistic talents and creativity in students across three different schools. A proud National Board Certified teacher, Penny has earned recognition for exceptional teaching practices and leadership.

As a lead teacher, Penny has not only guided students but has also mentored fellow educators, sharing expertise and elevating the art program within the district. Beyond the classroom, Penny is deeply committed to community service. She actively engages in various initiatives aimed at enriching the local community, from organizing art exhibitions and workshops to participating in school outreach programs. This dedication extends to mentoring young artists and collaborating with local organizations to bring service projects into her classroom. Penny's career shows a deep-seated dedication to education and the arts, blending a rich background in service with a devotion to fostering creativity, artistic expression, and service in students.
