Since appearing as part of the Department of Puerto Rican & Latinx Studies' West Side Story (WSS): The Brooklyn Connection series in 2021 for the screenwriting adaptation of the iconic musical, legendary writer Tony Kushner has been nominated for distinguished awards for both WSS and The Fabelmans (2022). His plays include Angels In America: A Gay Fantasia On National Themes; Homebody/Kabul; and The Intelligent Homosexual’s Guide To Capitalism And Socialism With A Key To The Scriptures. He wrote the screenplay for Mike Nichols’s film version of Angels In America, and the screenplays for Steven Spielberg’s films Munich and Lincoln. He is the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, an Emmy and two Tony Awards, three Obie Awards, an Olivier Award, an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award, a National Medal of Arts, and the Lifetime Achievement in the American Theater Award, including a CUNY honorary degree, among numerous accolades. Mr. Kushner is the recipient of the prestigious 2024 PEN/Mike Nichols Writing for Performance Award.
