Hello everyone, welcome to SA Today on 13 January 2026. We begin today's video with flooded streets in Phalaborwa in the Limpopo Province of South Africa today. Heavy rain and rising rivers flood low-lying bridges in Tzaneen and Hoedspruit. Then flooding in the Kruger National Park. Heavy rain and flooding are forecast for other parts of Kruger Park today. The low bridges are expected to flood, and no crossing is allowed. Heavy rain was observed today around Tzaneen and Hoedspruit, with flooding of the Letaba River. It's a busy day on the beach at Strand and a windy day for kite flying at Bloubergstrand. We stop at the Klipwerf Padstal in Calvinia and the Bagdad Café is closed on a Monday. The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows:
The eastern parts of South Africa (around the Kruger National Park) are bracing for dangerous flooding as tropical moisture continues dumping rain on already saturated ground, with the worst conditions expected in Bushbuckridge and the eastern Mopani area, where life-threatening mudslides, rockfalls, and fast-moving water could force families from their homes and destroy roads, livestock, and livelihoods. The escarpment areas of Mpumalanga Province and Limpopo Province will also see damaging rainfall and flooding, while scattered showers bring localized trouble to central Mpumalanga Province, eastern Limpopo Province, and northern KwaZulu-Natal Province where low-lying bridges and informal settlements remain vulnerable. Meanwhile, the western half of the country faces the opposite extreme as a stubborn heatwave grips the Northern Cape Province, Eastern Cape Province, Free State Province, and parts of the Western Cape Province, creating bone-dry conditions and extreme fire danger across the Northern Cape Province, western Free State Province, and southwestern North West Province where any spark could quickly get out of control.
