(2 Jun 2020) Law enforcement cleared protesters away from the area around the White House as a 7 p.m. curfew began in Washington, DC.
After using tear gas and rubber bullets, riot police advanced as the protesters were dispersed.
Two protesters who were walking near the police were arrested.
Several major cities have enacted curfews, and District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser set a 7 p.m. curfew for Monday and Tuesday.
Violent demonstrators ignored the 11 p.m. curfew the night before as they set buildings and trash cans on fire and broke into stores to steal items from the shelves.
Trump said he was recommending that governors throughout the country deploy the National Guard in sufficient numbers to “dominate the streets.”
If governors fail to take action, Trump said, he will deploy the United States military and “quickly solve the problem for them.”
