NT scan : Nuchal Translucency scan

This scan is a detailed scan done between 11- 14wks of pregnancy.
The reasons for which it is done is
to know the growth of the baby ,
whether it is alive ,
confirmation of the expected date of delivery ,
look for major life threatening abnormalities of the baby ,
the organ development of the baby ,
looks for soft markers for genetic syndromes especially down’s syndrome , for which other tests are done to confirm the diagnosis .
If there are twins , this scan confirms if both the babies share a placenta or have each one their own .
That is the reason this scan takes time , as it gives us a lot of information to plan further care of pregnancy and for the baby
