It's Heather from 45 North Map Company and it's time for another road trip! Today we are headed up highway 400 to the Trent-Severn Waterway and our destination is Gloucester Pool . And Gloucester Pool is our featured bathymetric map of the day. So this is a print that is flat to the touch, but we use some effects to make it look as if the lake has some depth to it. And we're going to show you some highlights of how we put this together in a digital sense. So yes, all the work we do to create our maps is digital until we go to print it. We start by stacking 2 types of geographic information in our GIS software: Shorelines and bathymetry, or depths, then we generate a colour ramp and give each depth a different shade of blue, and we export each depth layer along with our shoreline layer so that we can then import them and stack them into photoshop where the real magic happens. So here is a time lapse of that magic that we do in photoshop, where we have in the case of our Gloucester Pool print, 11 different depth layers that we stack. And then we add the 3D effects to the depths and add the title And finally we'll see what this print looks like in a variety of frames and sizes to suit your space. They are nice framed with or without a matting, and, they're really nice dry mounted as well. We hope you enjoyed learning how we create our bathymetric maps!
