The open-air museum Ballenberg is a foundation whose purpose it is to preserve historical rural edifices from all parts of Switzerland by taking them apart piece by piece and reassembling them on our grounds for everyone to visit and as a basis for scientific enquiry. Ballenberg is a living cultural centre with events, courses, exhibitions and publications.

More than one hundred centuries-old buildings from all over Switzerland, 200 farmyard animals, traditional, old-time gardens and fields, demonstrations of local crafts and many special events create a vivid impression of rural life in days gone by.
