CARE's Village Savings and Loan Associations

At CARE, we believe in simple ideas that have a big impact. Thirty years ago, CARE started an initiative in Niger where women pooled money together and loaned it out to each other to start or grow businesses. These Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) took root and grew, becoming self-sustaining as women all around the world invested in themselves and their neighbours.

Since 1991, 8.4 million people have joined VSLAs and many peer organizations, donors, and governments have adopted the model. Learn more at https://care.ca
