Letter to Thyatira | Revelation

This sermon unpacks Jesus' words of encouragement and challenge to the Church in Thyatira. This is a Church existing in the midst of idolatry, sexual immorality, and false teaching.

Jesus, the one who has eyes like blazing fire, reminds these Christians that he sees and knows the motives of their hearts. Thus, he encourages them because he has seen the growth in their relationship with him. This is evidenced by their excelling in love, faith, service, and perseverance.

However, Jesus has this against them, they tolerate & don't correct false teaching rife within their city. Jesus' desire for the Church is not simply that they wouldn't personally participate in sinful practices, but that they would courageously challenge & offer correction to these harmful practices. For as this letter makes clear the consequences of giving ourselves to these things are serious.

Lord, may you help us grow in our personal relationship with you, and remain steadfast in rejecting false teaching wherever we come across it.
