10 Foods You Should NEVER Store in the Fridge!
Many of us instinctively put almost everything in the refrigerator, thinking it will stay fresh longer. However, certain foods actually lose their flavor, texture, and nutritional value when stored in the cold environment of a fridge. Here are 10 common foods you should avoid refrigerating:--
1) Tomatoes – Cold temperatures make tomatoes mealy and flavorless by breaking down their cell structure. They also lose valuable lycopene. Store them at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
2) Potatoes – Refrigeration converts starch into sugar, which can form harmful acrylamide when cooked at high heat. Keep potatoes in a cool, dark, well-ventilated place.
3) Onions – The moisture in the fridge causes them to become soft, moldy, and sprout quickly. Store in a dry, airy spot in a mesh bag.
4) Garlic – Cold makes garlic sprout faster and lose its pungent flavor. Keep whole bulbs in a cool, dry place.
5) Bananas – Chilling causes the peel to blacken and the fruit to become mushy due to chilling injury. Store at room temperature.
