I’ve been on YouTube (vaguely seriously) for about a year now and I remember the immense hype in 2020 around fragrances such as Swiss Arabian’s Shaghaf Oud and also Lattafa’s Raghba, but also how that hype has faded... I was always hesitant to try Middle Eastern fragrances because of the incredibly mixed and changing reactions to them (I've seen a lot of decluttering!) and my perception of their immense strength and projection. They also feel "unfamiliar", you don't see them in shops, which makes the sheer choice available bamboozling. I was also wary of the risk of ending up with similar smelling fragrances! For someone who struggles with basic decisions in life (me, I overthink EVERYTHING), it’s basically a minefield… 💣there are so few opportunities to try them which necessitates taking the plunge and just blind buying them. Yes, some are inexpensive (you can easily find interesting choices for less than £15), but buying something you don't love still hurts, so how do you navigate this minefield? I personally found it overwhelming... 🤯

My advice is to start watching a few channels that review these kinds of fragrances, but ones that review designer scents too, because they will be the people likely to be able to make useful comparisons to perfumes that you might be more familiar with. Try to find people who you find yourself being able to predict what they like and dislike. Those are the ones!

Start small too: if you can find someone just beginning to sample Middle Eastern fragrances, you can join them in the journey and that is so useful because they don't talk about 20 fragrances that sound similar, all at the same time!

I started watching ‪@AFragrantGlance‬ (I also continued watching ‪@VeronicaSays‬ ‪@CeeChroniclesTalkingScents‬ ‪@AdriennaDC‬ and ‪@sniffingfragrance4767‬ and I decided to go for it after watching some really useful comparison videos. Here is what I blind bought along with a more considered purchase as a result of a sample from ‪@PaolaBianka‬ (thank you, always).

I have had these for some time and I've really, really got to know then before reviewing them. So what did I think? Did I choose perfumes that I ended up enjoying or not?
