Estimate Yarn Length
Measure about 3 times the width of your project. This extra yarn will be your “long tail” for casting on.

Make a Slip Knot
Create a slip knot using the working yarn (attached to the ball) and place it on your needle. This is your first stitch.

Position the Yarn
Hold the needle in your right hand. With your left hand, separate the long tail and working yarn using your thumb and index finger.

Create a Loop
Use your thumb to make a loop with the long tail yarn and your index finger to position the working yarn above.

Insert Needle into the Loop
Bring the needle up through the thumb loop, then catch the working yarn with the needle.

Pull Through & Tighten
Pull the working yarn through the loop and gently tighten the stitch by pulling on the long tail.
