Ankle fractures are among the commonest orthopedic injuries. Ankle fracture can be a simple one bone fracture or two bone fracture or three bone fractures we call it uni-malular, bi-malular and tri-malular. Sometimes these ankle fractures can be single bone broken along with a ligament injury or two bones broken along with a ligament injury or all the three parts of the bone. Though there are only two bones in the ankle generally when we talk about ankle fractures but one of the bones has two different parts so we call it lateralmalulus, medial malulus and postural malulus. One more entity which is rare but happens when you have a fall from a height directly landing on your foot it is called a pylon injury where the ankle goes and hits the ground directly. These injuries are of long term and recovery is not good. Coming to single, bi-malular and tri-malular if treated properly with surgery and proper rehabilitation at the end of 3-4 months they should be able to do all their activities without any restrictions. There are some situations where it might take longer duration based on the personality of the patient, how they cooperate with the treatment and what sought of mental makeup they have all these things are barring upon any sort of rehabilitation. The fracture per say will take about three months to heal.
