To clear any confusion:

Anyone learning Vietnamese might notice Northern and North Central Vietnamese accents contain the least mispronunciations in words compared to Southern and South Central Vietnamese accents. That's because the Northern accents are the original accents of Vietnam and thus retain the more original pronunciations. As Vietnam expanded south, Vietnamese speech became more slurred and mispronounced and in result created their own unique speech different from the north. Learning Vietnamese with northern accents will be easier as it is a lot closer to the writing compared to the southern accents. It is considered standard because it is more 'correct' in speech and in writing and is used as the accent to bridge all accents/dialects in Vietnam.
