Fishing The Ancient Nile River

Описание к видео Fishing The Ancient Nile River

Ever wondered what you might catch if you went fishing in the Nile River?

Locals have been fishing the upper reaches of the Nile in small boats for thousands of years. Once upon a time, they regularly caught Nile perch the size of a full grown man. Since the Aswan dam was completed in 1971, the fish are rarely larger than a man’s hand.

The set out their gill nets and then slap the water near the shore with long bamboo poles, hoping to scare out the smaller fish. By wiping out the juveniles they are leaving even fewer fish for future generations but they have little choice. They have to feed their children.
