Washington Today (7-15-24): Donald Trump selects Sen. J.D. Vance as vice-presidential running mate

Former President Donald Trump choose Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his vice-presidential running mate, writing "J.D.’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country."

The Republican National Convention begins in Milwaukee, adopting the party platform and with the roll call of states, officially nominating Donald Trump as presidential nominee. Then by acclamation, Sen. Vance as the vice-presidential nominee.

This all comes two days after an assassination attempt on Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the investigation of which continues, both the motives of alleged shooter and the breakdown in Secret Service security.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announces Donald Trump and independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr will receive additional security at the direction of President Biden.
