Ladies and gentleman, this is the XEV YoYo Pro.
When, as a car reviewer, I was approached and asked if I wanted to do the UK’s first review of the YoYo, I was excited, but confused.
Excited because, I used to love my YoYo in the 90s, but confused because - why would you choose me to review a YoYo, and why are they back in fashion? Aren’t kids all playing Fifa these days and watching conspiracy videos on TikTok?
It turns out that they wanted me to review a car called the YoYo. And when I was told that it’s a tiny electric car that goes twice the speed of a Citroen Ami, I gave them my address and told them to deliver it as soon as humanly possible.
This is a fully electric car, and in the UK, it’s in the L7E category, meaning it’s limited to 56mph.
It was designed in Turin, Italy, by XEV, and is manufactured in Shanghai.
It weighs just 440kg, and in terms of power, it has a 15KW motor, or in old money, that’s an adorable 20hp.
It has a battery capacity of 10.4kwh, giving it around 95 miles of range, and it can be fully charged from 0-100% in just over 3 hours on a 7kw charger.
This means the car gives you around 23 miles of range for each £1 you spend on energy, which is astonishingly cheap.
On the inside, the YoYo feels like any modern car. It’s got air conditioning, AM/FM radio, electric windows and mirrors, a decent 10 inch touchscreen, panoramic roof, a luggage capacity of 180 litres and a funky colour scheme.
In terms of safety and security features, it’s got ABS, an alarm, central locking and keyless entry. And it comes with a three year warranty.
