How to password protect documents video by supercoolclues.
In this video, I am going to show you how to protect documents against unauthorized access, by saving each document with passwords. This applies to Microsoft office documents especially Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Only people who know a password for a document can open or modify this document.
To create document passwords, open the document of interest the normal way be it Microsoft word, excel or PowerPoint. You can edit it normally.
However, at the point of saving, you click on File, click on Save as, determine the folder where you want to save the document. In this demo I am saving the document on the Windows desktop.
In addition to giving the document a file name the usual way,
Look for Tools near the Save button.
Click on the down arrow on tools, you will get a submenu with several options. Look for General Options in this submenu, Click on General options.
Another screen will pop up with two input boxes or fields one for the open password and another for the modify password. Think of and enter the password for each of these fields. The password can be the same but it is recommended that the open password should be different from the modify password. Make sure you remember these passwords because resetting them after forgetting them is almost not possible.
After entering the passwords, click OK.
Then click on the Save button.
The document will be saved with passwords.
You can close the document.
When you or somebody opens the document, like double clicking on the document on the desktop in my case. The document will ask for the open password. If you input the wrong password, the document will not open but you will get a message that the password is incorrect.
You can try to open the document again. If you enter the correct open password, the document will ask for the modify password. If the modify password is entered correctly, then the document will open and you can read, edit, and modify in the normal way.
