 Anthoceros is represented by about 200 species throughout the globe and in India it is represented by about 25 species.
 Kashyap reported A. himalayensis, A. erectus and A. chambensis from Western Himalaya region at an altitude of 5000-8000 feet.
 All species are terrestrial and well distributed in temperate and tropical region.
 They grow mostly in moist and shady places like river bank and rock crevices.
