This is a 16-minute video from the Aug. 7, 1970 Major League Baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and the Senators in Washington, won by the Red Sox, 3-1.
It is from the WHDH TV in Boston broadcast, with Ken Coleman and Ned Martin on play by play and Johnny Pesky on commentary.
One of the witty commenters on this channel said I put out ADD Games of the Week, and this one certainly qualifies, as most of the key plays in the game are here, in one damned tidy package.
The basics: Tony Conigliaro drove in two runs and Carl Yastrzemski the other in support of a nice start by Cal Koonce, and Ken Brett came on in the ninth to lock it down.
The superlatives: Washington shortstop Eddie Brinkman makes a great running catch of a foul pop and Boston left fielder Billy Conigliaro races toward center to snare a liner at a crucial point in the game.
The just-damn-interesting: We see an actual mound visit by Senators manager Ted Williams ... Jerry Moses had a baserunning blunder, and it sounded like Yaz did too ... No camera shots from behind the pitcher, as were seen in previous games at RFK Stadium ... Frank Howard hits an absolute bullet that gets to the center fielder (Reggie Smith) about as quickly as I've ever seen. It was only in the air for nanoseconds!
