10. EUCHARIST - 1 Cor 11:17-34
Lord unveil to us the mystery of the Eucharist!
Dear Friends, let us offer this hour and all that we do today in union with all the masses being offered all over the world that the Lord may unveil to us the mystery of the Eucharist.
What is this mystery
of which St JP II says, the greatest treasure in the Catholic Church,
the source and summit of Christian Life?
What is the power of this mystery of which
St Thomas Aquinas says: Sacred Meal in which Crjhist is received
the memory of his passion is relieved,
the soul is filled with every grace
and a pledge of future glory is given to us?
How can I celebrate, contemplate and adore this mystery of the Eucharist
that I become transformed into this mystery?
Jesus tells us:
Everything I did in my life was to become Eucharist for you: born in manger, flight to Egypt, 30 years hidden, 3 years of public ministry, called a friend of sinners, my passion, death and resurrection..
I never suffered so much to work any other miracle as to become Eucharist: agony in garden, scourging, crowning, journey, crucifixion, heart pierced: all this just to be held in my mother’s arms and in the hands of a priest!
CCC 1337 says: The Lord, having loved those who were his own, loved them to the end. Knowing that the hour had come to leave this world and return to the Father, in the course of a meal he washed their feet and gave them the commandment of love. In order to leave them a pledge of this love, in order never to depart from his own and to make them sharers in his Passover, he instituted the Eucharist as the memorial of his death and Resurrection, and commanded his apostles to celebrate it until his return; "thereby he constituted them priests of the New Testament."
As we meditate on the mystery of the institution of the holy eucharist and priesthood, the washing of the feet and the commandment of love, let us pray: Lord make me an
expert in the contemplation, adoration and celebration of the Eucharist.
Dear Friends, Let us take our hearts to where it all began - the upper room !
On that holy Thursday,
Having loved us, Jesus loved us unto the end,
and to remain with us to the end, he instituted this sacrament of his greatest love!
Much can be spoken about this mystery, the source and summit of Christian life and mission; the greatest treasure in the Catholic Church. But unless the Lord reveals, we will never discover the depth of this mystery. Let us listen therefore, to Jesus himself, as he gives the first ever homily on the Eucharist, in John 6
Eucharist is the greatest miracle ever!
But many would find it difficult to believe.
Many would leave..
But Jesus does not change his teaching..
Knowing, however, that this would be a test of faith for many,
He worked many Eucharistic Miracles, down the centuries
to strengthen our faith in the mystery of the Eucharist.
