Описание к видео What you MUST Do Right Now to get your Jasmine to Flower Indoors this Winter. | Jasminum Polyanthum

The Secret to Loads of Indoor Jasmine Flowers in February:

If you have a White star Jasmine and you would like to enjoy a huge abundant display of flowers inside your home over winter then this is the video for you, but be sure to watch till the end as I need to explain what you MUST do right now if you want your home filled with Jasmine flowers and that amazing scent to fill the house this winter.

Firstly I need to explain that I’m in the UK and so these tips are for countries that get cold over the winter, if you live in Florida I’m not sure these tips are going to be as relevant and to be honest your Jasmine probably flowers all year round so you don’t need to worry!

Right now it’s autumn in the UK and we’re rapidly sliding towards winter so we need to prep our Jasmin to give us the best opportunity to enjoy some abundant flowers inside which quite honestly is one of the few good things to happen in February in the UK, it’s not the most fun month unless you can escape and go someone else nicer!

So the first thing you will want to do is to trim back some of the straggly summer growth that will do two things, firstly it will neaten it up and make it easier to keep inside for a few months and secondly, for each trim point you will get two more shoots so it will become more dense and therefore will increase the number of potential flower spikes you will get when it’s time to flower so you want it as dense as possible.

Now the most important thing you need to do at this time of year is to bring your Star Jasmine into the house at just the right time and in the right way, firstly you need to leave it outside as it starts to get cold, this is important as your Jasmine needs the cold to initiate the flower spike production so we don’t want to bring it in too early or it will think it’s still summer and carry on putting out bushy growth, so we want cold nights be NOT hard frost, that’s why the timing is so important,

Keeping an eye on the weather at this time of year is the key. It’s actually been quite mild here so far this October, and daytime temps have been 15 -17c. I’ve been in a t-shirt on several days, and nights don't get much lower than 10c, so my jasmine has been staying out to get the cooler weather signals it needs to start the flowering phase.
Once it starts to get cold at night we then need to be careful because if we get a hard frost and your Jasmine is still outside you will risk damaging the plant and the new growth so cold yes frost no, so any time around now getting ready to take it inside but it’s not ideal for bringing it into a centrally heated house straight from outside as it will be too much of a temperature shock and too dry for it so a gradual introduction would be useful, so if you have an unheated conservatory or minimally headed conservatory or porch where it will still get the sunlight, avoid the frost but still not too warm then this is ideal, an unheated greenhouse might also be ok if you can make sure it doesn’t free inside with a greenhouse heater of some description.

So the first thing to do is trim off the straggly growth, I have already done this on mine without thinking about making this video so that was clever! But to give you an idea…

As you can see, I have been trimming my Jasmine a few times this summer, so I have already got quite a nice compact form and not too straggly. They are naturally climbing plants, so they will always put out these long shoots, but we can trim them into something a little more aesthetically desirable, at least for a while. I allow it to do as it will for all of the Spring and Summer; it only has to behave for a few short months.

So now we have our Jasmine trimmed and ready to produce as many flowering branches as possible and we are ready to bring it inside to acclimatise slowly, this is key because if it doesn’t like your warm house it will not do well and you won't get many flowers if any. So an unheated spare bedroom with some good light is great, back porch front porch, whatever you have that is cool and bright.

The longer you can keep it from flowering the more flower buds it has time to grow and the more flowers you will have, slow and steady is the key at this stage, too warm and sunny and it will flower too early, too little, and be over too soon.
