Children look at a selection of peas, whole, mushy, frozen etc, in order to describe the differences.
As they talk about eating preferences and the various properties of the peas, they are encouraged to use scientific vocabulary to describe them. This leads on to looking at how peas grow and the parts that make up a pea plant. Numeracy and phonics are introduced as the children count leaves and sound out the names of plant parts, such as shoot, root, stalk etc.
