What types of things do we covet? This is an important question because, make no mistake, covetousness is a huge problem in our society today. In fact, it is basically covetousness that drives our economy forward as what we spend our money on is all too often making sure that we have the newest, biggest, and best thing (whatever it may be). And, that prevalence of coveting in our society is problematic because Scripture makes it very clear that it is a sin; after all, it is the tenth commandment, “You shall not covet.” This means that we Christians live in a state of tension between what Scripture says and what society glorifies.  Because of this, we need to be hypervigilant in our own lives to keep covetousness from creeping in.
