Hospital pilot sites in 8 cities around the globe have demonstrated that using a simple surgical checklist during major operations can lower incidence of deaths and complications by more than one third. The study was led by Drs. Atul Gawande and Alex Haynes, researchers at HSPH, in collaboration with the World Health Organization. The study appears online at NEJM.org.
