জ্যোতি, লাইট হাউজ, মেট্রো... কলকাতার হারিয়ে যাওয়া সিনেমা হলগুলো | Lost Cinema Halls of Kolkata

কোলকাতার বুকের সব ঐতিহ্যাশালী জায়গাগুলো একে একে মুছে যাচ্ছে বেশ কিছু বছর ধরেই। এর মধ্যে আছে বেশ কিছু সিঙ্গল স্ক্রিন সিনেমা হলও। একের পর এক বন্ধ হয়ে গেছে জ্যোতি, লাইট হাউজ, মেট্রো, গ্লোব, টাইগারের মত সব হল, আধুনিক শপিং মল আর মাল্টিপ্লেক্সের সাথে পাল্লা দিতে না পেরে। কিছুদিন আগেই তালা ঝোলানো হয়েছে মালঞ্চর দরজায়, এলিট সিনেমা হলও বাদ পড়েনি এই আধুনিকতার কোপ থেকে। বেশ কিছু বছর আগে ধুলিস্মাৎ করে দেওয়া হয়েছে ভারতের প্রথম সিনেমা হল, চ্যাপলিনকে, যেখানে জামসেদজী ফ্রামজী মদন নিয়ে এসেছিলেন প্রথম টকি শো; যে হলে প্রজেক্টর চালাতেন মহানায়ক উত্তম কুমারের বাবা।
কিছুই কি করা যেতো না এই ঐতিহাসিক সিনেমা হলগুলোকে বাঁচানোর জন্য? আজকের পর্বে আমরা কথা বলব এই পিছনে ফিরে দেখা নিয়েই।

One after another all the landmarks of Kolkata are shutting their doors; the ones that used to be the identity of the city. Old single screen cinema halls are one of the worst contenders to take the heat of globalisation. Jyoti, Light House, Metro, Globe, Tiger - all these theatres closed shops during the last few years. Recently Malancha held it's last show; we also lost the great Elite movie theatre. Even Chaplin, the first permanent movie theatre of India, was not spared. Jamshedji Framji Madan had showed the first talkie in India at this hall. As per history, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar's father used to run the projector of Chaplin.
Wasn't there anything to be done to save these historical movie theatres? Today we will talk about this nostalgia.
