LGF 116: Hawaiian Hybrid Greenstick!

FEATURED LOCATION: Hawai'i Island offshore.
FEATURED SPECIES: Yellowfin Tuna (Shibi), Skipjack Tuna (Aku).

Yukinobu Shibata is the Japanese inventor of this fishing equipment and he is giving us a tutorial in Hawaii. In recent years this unique method has been embraced by Tuna fishermen worldwide.

For this demonstration, the crew of the Lana Kila is targeting juvenile Yellowfin (Shibi) and Skipjack Tuna (Aku). Mr. Shibata is showcasing his new Hawaiian Hybrid Greenstick.

Step by step instructions on how to set up the gear is described. This drill is made easy with an electric reel deploying and retrieving our our lures for us.

When we find the tuna school, the bite is on! These guys make it look too easy. You can see why this is catching on with those who hunt tuna!
