Krem Chympe & Chympe Waterfall - Uncovering A Mysterious Cave in Meghalaya | Offbeat & Untold

Krem Chympe is the 5th longest cave in Meghalaya and India. Along with Chympe waterfall, it is tucked away in the East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya.

How to Reach Krem Chympe?
To reach Krem Chympe (Chympe Caves) and Chympe Waterfall. you have to reach Brishirnot village. Brishirnot is located about 125 km from Shillong and 70 km from Jowai Town.
It is recommended to hire a car from Shillong ot Jowai to reach Brishirnot. You will get shared cabs from Shillong to Jowai. But after that, availability of public transport is not guaranteed.
From Brishirnot, you have to trek for about 5 km to Khaddum village (it will take about 2 hours to trek down to Khaddum). Alternatively, you can also take a 4X4 vehicle to reach Khaddum and then a little ahead of the village till the point where the trail towards the Chympe Waterfall and Chympe Caves bifurcates.

Chympe Waterfalls

Hidden amidst foliage and greenery, Chympe Waterfalls looks just like a picture postcard. You have to see it to believe it.

Krem Chympe (Chympe Caves)

Krem Chympe is the fifth longest cave in India. The cave is almost 10.5 km long and is yet to be explored fully. The river cave has about 50 natural dams that are 6 to 8 metres high. There are many limestone formations and natural pools inside the cave as well.
Krem Chympe is also the home to the largest cave fish in the planet. This limestone cave also has a massive colony of bats inside.
The trail to Krem Chympe is quite tricky and you have to jump across boulders and maneuver a few tricky bends to reach there.
To enter the cave, you either have to swim or take a raft. To explore the cave, caving equipment is required.
