The Taliban had been pushed into the margins - into rural valleys, mountain passes, and the hinterlands of a country weary from decades of conflict. In major cities like Kabul, Kandahar, and Herat, life went on. Then, just before dawn on a late September morning, the silence broke in Kunduz. A sudden assault, coordinated and ruthless, would push the Afghan forces to their limits. Was this attack on Kunduz a show of force and the Taliban’s return to power? Or was it a final, desperate attempt to seize control? - A last stand for the Taliban?
