Amos Wekesa is a national hero in Uganda. He's founder and chief of the 1st Indigenous-owned Ugandan tourism company. He started life in absolute poverty, smuggling over the Kenyan border as a child in a conflict zone. Here, discuss details of how he did this. For example: while paying $1.50/month in rent living in a slum, he brokered others' spare capacity (nice cars that weren't being used) to make cash flow that he invested into making his future goals possible. We also discuss his mindset - and the value of some form of confidence or faith, and what to make of crazy coincidences (luck?) like our even meeting, and having a shared connection to Babson College. Without promoting, he shared 2 themes that keep coming up in stories like his: (1) start (things happen when we are in motion) and (2) share (share your goals - some people will want to help, plus (3) the value of briefing and debriefing clients to set expectations and learn what works. Hope you enjoy and get some value!
