This video is required watching for all Clay Hole members who are beginners on the pottery wheel. In this video, we are going to learn the basic parts of preparing to throw on the wheel, tools needed, proper positioning, coning, centering, opening your clay, and finally creating a cylinder.

It is very important that you master making cylinders before you move onto more complex forms. If you can make a cylinder, you can make all sorts of epic forms. Until you get to that point, you’re going to struggle if you try to go too fast too quickly.

Be sure to grab an instructor if you get stuck. This is much trickier than most people expect, and it takes a lot of practice.
