The Mantled Guereza is a near threatened species of guenon monkey that is native to Africa. Guereza monkeys are highly social, diurnal primates and are known to be quite clever. They are considered to be a living link to the Old World monkey and ape ancestors of humans. These monkeys live primarily in rainforests where they eat mostly fruit, but they are known to eat insects, leaves, flowers and tree bark. Guereza monkeys live in groups of 2-12 family members in which they share responsibility for childcare. These groups of monkeys can be very vocal, and they have a range of calls they use to communicate. These calls are used to call out to members of their group, warn other members of their species away and to warn their group of approaching predators.
