Starship’s 10th test flight marked another milestone for SpaceX, but it also brought a significant challenge that could slow progress toward the next launch. While the mission itself went smoothly and delivered valuable data, a critical piece of ground equipment suffered major damage during liftoff. This problem is serious enough that it may delay the upcoming flight by several weeks. The mission’s success was the result of months of careful preparation. Between Flight 9 and Flight 10, SpaceX faced delays, unexpected setbacks, and demanding repair work. The original plan was to launch in late June, but that schedule was disrupted when Ship 36 exploded at the Masseys test site. That incident halted operations for nearly two months while the facility underwent extensive repairs. Rebuilding the site cost tens of millions of dollars, and during that time, engineers also worked on modifying the booster quick disconnect system at Orbital Launch Mount (Orbital Launch Mount) Pad A to ensure it could handle upcoming tests. This Booster Quick Disconnect is responsible for fueling and securing the booster before launch, and it plays a critical role in every mission.
Even after the repairs, Flight 10 didn’t happen immediately. The first planned attempt on August 24 was canceled due to ground system issues. The second attempt on August 25 was stopped because of unsafe weather conditions, including high electrical activity in the clouds. Finally, on the third try, the vehicle lifted off successfully, with Ship 37 replacing the lost Ship 36 and completing the planned mission objectives without fault.
